Permitted Uses: Performing group visits with naturalist guide visitors
Photography and filming Guided walks ancillary activities authorized by the Galapagos National Park in the itineraries of vessels authorized
Post Office or Post Office Bay is a historical site that reminds us of the time of the whalers when they came to Galapagos to stock up on land and water turtles. Here presumably a captain of a whaler put a barrel in the eighteenth century for those who pass through the bay leave and take the mail that had the same fate. In the story first it appears on a map of the whaler James Colnett in 1793.
Today, this tradition is kept alive with tourists visiting the Galapagos. Remind passengers before landing with a postcard or letter to family and / or friends. No need stamps. All you have to do is pick a card that is directed to where they live.
At Post Office Bay also we found remains of an attempt at colonization led by Norwegians in the early twentieth century, who installed a fish cannery.
Another point of interest is a lava tunnel; It formed when lava cools on the sides and at the base, but the core material continues to flow down. Eventually that is still liquid lava leakage and spills outward leaving a hollow cavity.
Special indications
The trail to the cave (lava tube) is indicated. Carrying a torch.
Do not use sunscreens with strong fragrances or bright colors, because in this island there are a lot of introduced wasps (Polistes versicolor), which are attracted by both and produce strong bites.
