The island Bartolomé is an island belonging to the Equator, which is part of the Galapagos Islands. It is a volcanic islet near the east coast of the island of Santiago. It is one of the most "young" islands in the Galapagos archipelago. This island, and Sulivan Bay, on the island of Santiago, bear the name of Charles Darwin's naturalist and lifelong friend Sir James Sulivan Bartholomew, who was a lieutenant on board the HMS Beagle, who belonged to the British Navy. Bartholomew is the Hispanicized form of the original name of this sailor, Bartholomew, who, together with Darwin, made the islands very famous.
