ITINERARY A - 8 Days (Tuesday - Tuesday)

ITINERARY A - 8 Days (Tuesday - Tuesday)

Tuesday: Baltra Airport - Santa Cruz Highlands (PM)

This morning our Guide will be waiting for you at 10:00 am at Baltra Airport in order to welcome you and take to the yacht that will be anchored nearby the dock. On your arrival you must pay USD 100 for entry to Galapagos National Park.

We are going to start journeying across Santa Cruz into the highlands. Visitors will enjoy the island's variety of life and geology. Beginning at the coast, the road departs from Puerto Ayora climbing through the agricultural lands and into the mist covered forests. Santa Cruz possesses all of the various life zones present in the archipelago. As you travel through these zones birders are enchanted. Whether it's the bright red feathers of a vermillion flycatcher or one of Darwin's Finch almost every bird present in the islands can be found here.

Meals Included: Lunch - Breakfast

Wednesday: Devil’s Crown - Cormorant Point (AM) / Mirador de la Baronesa - Post Office Bay (PM)

At the beginning of this morning we will visit Devil’s Crown, this underwater crater formation was once a fully submerged volcano. Subsequent eruptions and the powerful ocean have eroded the cone into a jagged ring of black lava spires rising from the sea floor. The area's sharp drop-off and strong currents attract fish of all sizes, making for great scuba diving and some of the best snorkeling in the islands.

Sharks are perhaps the biggest attraction of this place and the probability of seeing the elegant creatures is high-both white-tipped reef sharks and hammerheads frequent the area and swimming with parrotfish, sea lions, marine iguanas, surgeon fish, and triggerfish is also quite likely.

Our second visit will be Cormorant Point, this place have more colorful view: glistening green stones, red mangroves, gray hills, pink flamingos, white sand, and blue water. Visitors arrive on a wet landing at the northern end of the island, on a beach littered with thousands of tiny green crystals. A short walk inland leads to one of the largest flamingo lagoons in the Galápagos. The rare cutleaf daisy, a flower that grows nowhere else in the world, can be seen here as well.

In the afternoon passengers will visit Post Office Bay, this fantastic place has a story which says that In 1793, a British whaling captain erected a post office barrel on the quiet bay of the then-uninhabited island. For years, this barrel was the only postal facility for hundreds of miles. Whaling ships from around the world left their letters in the barrel and picked up those that they could deliver during their travels. Although the first barrel is now long gone, the tradition is maintained by the island's thousands of visitors each year, who arrive via a wet landing at a mahogony beach on Floreana's northern shore.

Mirador de la Baronesa  is a vista point on the northside of Floreana. It is a basaltic rock formation between Cormorant Point and Post Office Bay. It is a good place for understanding the mangroves. The red mangrove is characterized by a hanging elongated fruit, which in reality is a new daughter plant that grows from the parent plant, a rarity in the plant kingdom.

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

Thursday: Suarez Point (AM) / Gardner Bay - Gardner Islet - Osborn Islet (PM)

In this morning after breakfast we will visit Suarez Point that is located on the west coast of the Española Island, the oldest island of the archipelago, with about five million years old. In this place can be seen as a subspecies of iguanas with red and green colors of the Spanish endemic. Furthermore, this is the only place in the world where albatross nest.

After lunch we will visit the beautiful white sandy beaches at Gardner Bay, which are great places for swimming and relaxing. The rocks off the coast provide excellent snorkelling opportunities, with reef sharks, turtles and many species of tropical fish, including surgeon and angelfish, often seen. The small white-tipped reef sharks are also often spotted resting under the rocks.

Our next stop is Gardner Islet that is lined with vertical cliffs that drop to sandy ledges and large boulders. Snorkelling here you will encounter the smallest of the Galapagos garden eels, snake eels, blackspot morays, Galapagos pufferfish, scorpionfish, and red-lipped batfish. The area has an abundance of fish including schools of snappers, creolefish, king angelfish, butterflyfish, jacks, large pufferfish and a variety of sea urchins and sea stars.

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

Friday: Interpretation Center  (AM) / León Dormido - Lobos Island (San Cristóbal) (PM)

In this morning we will visit the Interpretation Center, located in San Cristobal Island. The center was donated by the Spanish government and inaugurated by the Prince of Spain in 1998. This place focuses on the interaction between humans and the process of the “natural history laboratory”, demonstrating that a harmonious relation between human beings and nature is possible.

Our second visit will be Leon Dormido, that is a superb rock located in the middle of the Galapagos Islands sea. Great spot for kayaking and diving because under the sea the nearly crystal waters offer a brilliant show of colorful tropical fish and invertebrates. This gigantic rock raises 500 feet straight from the ocean. This Galapagos landscape has become a favorite sight due to the many tropicbirds, frigates and boobies that fill the surroundings.

Our last visit for this day will be Lobos Island. It is a small flat island, located 10 kilometers northeast of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The name is given because it is home to several sea lions that frolic on the beach and his fur brown highlights on the white sand. He is also the ideal place to watch nesting frigates and blue-footed boobies. It has a protected channel where you can go snorkeling with sea lions.

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

Saturday: Santa Fe (AM) / Carrion Point (PM)

This day we will start our visits with Santa Fe that is one of the most beautiful and sheltered bays in the archipelago, and some of the best snorkeling places for swimming with sea lions and for a glimpse of the Galapagos White-tipped Shark and a sea turtle. After a wet landing you will walk up to a nearby cliff to see the land iguanas through an area of Opuntia Cactus. Other animals present are the Galapagos Hawk, owls, Frigates, Pelicans, Manta Rays and mockingbirds.

In the afternoon, after lunch, a short boat ride us to Carrion Point offers the opportunity for easy snorkeling to see a variety of fish, rays and possibly the harmless white tip reef sharks and swimming around a shallow and protected cove.

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch – Dinner

Sunday: North Seymour (AM) / Black Turtle Cove (PM)

We will start this day with North Seymour that is a small island near to Baltra. It was formed by uplift of a submarine lava formation. The whole island is covered with low, bushy vegetation. It is home to a large population of blue-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. It hosts one of the largest populations of frigatebirds. The island has a flat profile with cliffs only a few meters from the shoreline, where swallowtail gulls and tropicbirds sit perched in ledges. A tiny forest of silver-grey Palo Santo trees stand just above the landing, usually without leaves, waiting for rain to bring them into bloom. The island is teeming with life. Flocks of pelicans and swallow-tailed gulls feed off shore, and seasonally, Nazca boobies can also be seen.

After lunch we will visit Black Turtle Cove that is situated in the northern part of Santa Cruz. This place is a nursery for many sharks and rays. It is also a great location to observe mating sea turtles, the site takes its name for the black sea turtles that mate in these calm waters. There are large groups of resting white-tip reef sharks, schools of golden rays and spotted eagle rays, and a few juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks and black-tip sharks.

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

Monday: Cerro Dragón (AM) / Ballena Bay - Edén Island (PM)

In this day we will visit Cerro Dragón. It is one of the best places in the islands to see the land iguanas and several species of birds. These miniature dragons roam around the sun-scorched, boulder-strewn island, nipping away contentedly at the fruits and flowers of their favorite food, the Opuntia Cacti. The site consists of a trail in a sort of lasso shape, a trail leads inland to the hill, up and around the hill, and then back out to the beach. The path is one of the longer ones in Galapagos Islands where passengers will have a great view. In the trail you can see Palo Santo trees and cacti forest. Also there is a saltwater lagoon where lucky visitors may see Pintail Ducks or Flamingos.

In the afternoon we will visit Ballena Bay that is located in the west coast of Santa Cruz Island. In this place you can enjoy a beach that contains a large amount of olivine crystals, which are originating from volcanic materials. Near to the beach there are traces of pottery, it is reflects the ancient human settlements. In this place there is a path that allows the ascent to the top, where you can see a spectacular landscape of the islets and islands located to the west. Here we will see the Galápagos Hawk and giant tortoises.

The Eden Islet is a complementary site located to 1.47 m to the north, which is accessible by kayak or panga ride.

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

Tuesday: Charles Darwin Research Station - Baltra Airport (AM)

In this day we will visit Charles Darwin Research Station that is located just outside of Puerto Ayora on the Santa Cruz Island. It is the working Galapagos based branch of the international, non-profit Charles Darwin Foundation. The Station works closely with the Galapagos National Park Service protecting the Marine Reserve. All visitors learn about natural history, issues concerning the islands, and see the tortoise breeding and some land iguanas.

The Darwin Station primarily a scientific operation to better protect and maintain this precious area. The information is also published in scientific journals, reports, and interpretive displays for visitors and becomes part of the environmental education process. The site also works providing environmental education to communities and schools within the islands, and to tourists visiting the Galapagos Islands.

Finally our Guide takes passengers to Baltra Airport in order to take their flight back.
